Calculator inputs and result Your home Check that this covers your home This calculator starts at a City valuation of R 1 million and covers an owner-occupied freestanding house. It doesn't cover a flat, sectional-title home or an owner who lives elsewhere. For the electricity part, your home must get electricity from the City of Cape Town, not Eskom. If you may qualify for rates or service relief, check the City's
indigent benefits before using the standard rates here. If you live outside Cape Town, use your municipality's official tariff page or ask its billing office for the current rates; this estimate won't match another municipality.
We can't calculate this one We don't have this yet We haven't confirmed Cape Town's current water restrictions. Water, sewerage and the combined estimate aren't shown until that's checked. Current result Show result Your entries stay only in this tab.
If your bill is different from this estimate The City says that when it cannot take a meter reading, it may estimate water or electricity from your earlier use. An estimated reading is not the current figure on your meter.
Check the reading and the number of billing days on your account. You can follow the City's steps to submit a water meter reading or submit an electricity meter reading .
Where this comes from, and what it doesn't cover The 2026/27 tariff figures were checked on 24 September 2026. That check remains part of the source record. Current water restrictions need a separate check before these water and sewerage prices can be used in a combined estimate.

Rates on a home the owner lives in, worked out from the City's 2025 valuation. The first R620 000 of the value isn't rated if the home is valued at R8 million or less.
This covers a freestanding house that the owner lives in, valued at R1 million or more; electricity from the City through one ordinary meter (not a smart meter); one ordinary household water meter; a home connected to the City's sewer; one wheelie bin collected once a week; the City's normal water prices, with no water restrictions.
This doesn't cover flats and sectional title, homes under R1 million, pensioner or indigent discounts, Eskom-supplied areas, rooftop solar or smart meters, septic tanks, extra bins, special rating area (City Improvement District) levies, and arrears or interest.
This is for an average month. Your real bill uses the actual number of days between meter readings, so it will differ a little.
If you have a prepaid electricity meter, you pay for electricity when you buy units, not on your City account.
It's an estimate. Compare the readings and billing period on your account before using it to query a difference with the City.
